Everybody else is doing it so why can't I?

Five favorite 2008 albums, among many (many) others:

Passion Pit, Chunk of Change (Cambridge, MA)
This EP was originally a gift from the lead singer to his girlfriend. Hope your ear canals are sufficiently wide for this one, "Sleepyhead":

No Lo Soporto, Avión (Argentina)

Fleet Foxes, Fleet Foxes (Seattle)

Paavoharju, Laulu Laakson Kukista (Finland)

Thao and the Get Down Stay Down, We Brave Bee Stings and All (Virginia/San Fran)
The drummer and bassist are brothers, and the guitarist is their ... dad. Thao met the drummer in college.

kexp: tell me a little about your approach to writing songs. usually, you write on guitar?
thao: i do, i write on guitar. normally it is in the depth of some kind of depression, and i'll start with the guitar part and then hopefully a lyric or vocal melody, or both, kind of instantanteously will happen.
kexp: when you say depression, so you mean that brings forth the songs a little better?
thao: yeah, yeah, there's more color. (4 apr 2008)

(You could make me a very happy woman.)

Best Album to Justify Having a 14-Year-Old Sister (Especially If It Means Road Tripping It Across the State With This Album Up Allllllllllll the Way) and Vice-Versa:
The Ting Tings, We Started Nothing

Worth the hype: Cut Copy, TV on the Radio, She & Him, High Places, The Dodos, Girl Talk, Hercules & Love Affair, MGMT
(Fine albums, but) I don't get the hype: Portishead, The Walkmen, Vampire Weekend, Crystal Castles, The Cool Kids

I'm indifferent: Santogold's album
Far from indifferent: Santogold's "L.E.S. Artistes" (make sure you get to 1:15)

Pop musically speaking, not a bad year to be a single lady. The disparity in dancing ability of these two is comical.

Annie (Norway), "I Know UR Girlfriend Hates Me,"
because life is too long to get it wrong:

Well, we know she's not opposed to spanking.
